Rowpin privacy policy
Rowpin is made by Jordan Mungujakisa.
The short version. Your patterns and your counts are yours. They live on your iPhone, and if you turn on sync they go to your own iCloud, which we cannot see into. If you allow it, we also measure how people move around the app so we can fix what confuses them. Rowpin asks first, sends nothing until you say yes, and you can change your answer in Settings. There is no advertising, no tracking across other apps or websites, and nothing is ever sold.
Your patterns and counts. The patterns you add (PDFs, photos, scans, saved web pages), your counts, the photos of finished projects and where each pattern came from (its web address, its file name and any note you add) are stored on your iPhone, inside Rowpin. They are included in your iPhone's own backup if you have backups turned on. Text in photos and scans is read on your iPhone and is never sent anywhere. For a temperature blanket, the day's highs you type and your colour key are kept with the project, like your counts: on your iPhone, and in your own iCloud if you turn on sync. They are never sent to us.
Your name. If you give Rowpin your first name during the welcome or in Settings, it is kept on your iPhone only. Rowpin uses it to greet you and to sign the card of a finished piece when you choose to share one. It is never sent to us, not even with analytics, and you can change or clear it in Settings.
Sync across your devices. Rowpin keeps your projects in step across the devices signed in to your Apple Account, using Apple's iCloud. Your patterns and counts go into your own private iCloud storage. They are not sent to us, we have no access to them, and we cannot read them. Apple handles that storage under Apple's privacy policy. If you turn iCloud off for Rowpin in your iPhone's settings, the app keeps working and simply stops syncing.
Patterns from web pages. When you save a pattern from a web page, Rowpin loads that page directly from its website, as Safari would, and keeps the copy on your iPhone. We are not involved and see nothing.
How we improve Rowpin. Rowpin uses PostHog to see where people get stuck, but only if you allow it. The welcome asks you once, and until you tap Allow nothing is sent. You can change your answer at any time with "Help improve Rowpin" in Settings.
It records that certain things happened: a step of the welcome was reached; your answers to its three choice questions (what you make, what you lose track of most, how long you have been making things); whether you gave a first name, never the name itself; a row was counted in the welcome's practice pattern or from the home screen; the Plus screen was opened, a plan was picked, a purchase started, finished or failed, purchases were restored; a pattern was added or failed to be added; a project was finished; a card was shared. Each carries the kind of thing it was, never the thing itself: "a pattern was added from a web page", never which page; "a project was finished", never its name or your row number. Nothing records your screen, and nothing reads what is on it.
These records carry a random ID made by the app on your device. It is not your name, your email or your Apple Account, it is not shared with anyone, and it is never combined with information about you from other apps or websites. We also tell PostHog not to work out where you are, so no country, region or city is stored against them. PostHog, Inc. keeps them for us on servers in the European Union and deletes them after one year. See PostHog's privacy policy at https://posthog.com/privacy.
Camera and photos. Rowpin uses the camera only when you choose to scan a pattern or take a photo of a finished project, and opens your photo library only to the photos you pick.
Notifications. If you start a free trial, Rowpin asks to send one reminder the day before the trial ends. It is scheduled on your iPhone.
Purchases. Subscriptions are sold by Apple through the App Store; we never receive your payment details. Rowpin uses RevenueCat, Inc. to check that a subscription is active and to report sales to us. RevenueCat receives an anonymous ID created by the app, your App Store purchase and subscription records for Rowpin, and technical details sent with them (such as the app version and your country or region). This is used only to give you Rowpin Plus, prevent fraud and show us our sales; it is not used for advertising or to track you. See RevenueCat's privacy policy at https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy and Apple's privacy policy for how Apple handles your purchase.
Third parties. Apple processes your purchase, and stores your synced patterns in your own iCloud, under Apple's privacy policy. RevenueCat processes the purchase records described above on our behalf. PostHog processes the events described above on our behalf. We share nothing else with anyone, and we sell nothing.
Tracking. Rowpin does not track you. Nothing it collects is linked with information about you from other companies' apps or websites, nothing goes to a data broker, and there is no advertising in the app.
Keeping and deleting your data. Your patterns, counts and photos stay on your iPhone, and in your own iCloud if sync is on, until you remove them. Deleting a project removes its count and its copy of the pattern, on every device signed in to your Apple Account. Deleting Rowpin removes all of it from your iPhone; it may remain in your own backups until those are replaced, and in your iCloud until you remove Rowpin's data there. Event records are deleted after a year, sooner if you ask. Your purchase records stay with Apple and RevenueCat for as long as needed for your subscription and our accounting. Write to us and we will have your RevenueCat and PostHog records deleted. We hold no copy of your patterns or counts.
If you are in the European Union, the EEA or the UK. Jordan Mungujakisa, an individual developer in Uganda, is the controller of the personal data described here; write to jordan.jakisa@gmail.com about anything in this policy. What is used, why, and on what basis:
- Your purchase records and the app's anonymous ID, through RevenueCat, to give you Rowpin Plus, prevent fraud and keep our accounts: because you asked us to provide the subscription (contract), and for our legal accounting duties.
- Usage events, through PostHog, to see where people get stuck: only with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time with "Help improve Rowpin" in Settings. Withdrawing does not affect what was sent before.
- Your patterns, counts, photos, notes and name stay on your devices and in your own iCloud; we never receive them.
RevenueCat, Inc. is in the United States and processes purchase records for us under its data processing addendum. PostHog keeps usage events on its servers in the European Union. Records are kept for the times given under "Keeping and deleting your data".
You have the right to ask for access to your data, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to its use, to receive it in a portable form, and to withdraw consent. Write to us and we will answer within one month. Because we hold only an anonymous ID, tell us how to find your records (for example, the date of a purchase). You can also complain to the data protection authority where you live.
Children. Rowpin is not directed at children.
Changes. If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date.
