Privacy Policy for Readback

Readback ("the app") is built and maintained by Kerustudios ("we", "us"). It checks a dash cam's memory card and reports what it finds: the drives recorded, gaps, clips that will not play, and signs that the card is failing. This policy explains what the app collects, why, and how you can delete it.

If you have any questions, contact us at kyusafeapp@gmail.com.

Your footage stays on your phone

The app reads the folder you choose, read-only. It never modifies, moves or deletes a file on the card, and it never uploads footage, file names, folder names, GPS logs or anything else read from the card. Checks run entirely on your device, and the reports they produce are stored only on your device.

You can remove a report at any time from the Reports tab, and forget a saved folder from the Home tab. Uninstalling the app removes everything it stored.

Usage analytics

We use PostHog and Google Analytics for Firebase to understand how the app is used, for example which screens are opened, whether a check completes or fails, and the verdict it reached (healthy, needs attention, failing), so we can improve it. These events are anonymous: they carry a randomly generated identifier (a PostHog identifier and a Firebase app-instance identifier), basic device information (model, operating system version, app version, language, time zone), an approximate location estimated from your IP address, whether a purchase was made, and counts such as how many clips a check found. They never include footage, file names, folder names, card identifiers or locations read from the card. PostHog processes this data on servers in the European Union; Google processes it under the Google Privacy Policy. The app does not use the Android advertising ID.

Turning analytics off. Open Settings and switch off "Share anonymous usage stats". Both analytics services then stop, and the app sends nothing except crash reports, described next.

Crash reports

If the app crashes, Firebase Crashlytics (a Google service) sends us a report so we can fix the bug: the stack trace, the app version, the device model and operating system version, the amount of free memory and storage, whether the device was rooted, a Firebase installation identifier, and the screens visited shortly before the crash. Reports never include footage, file names, folder names or anything else read from the card. Crash reports cannot be turned off in the app; Google keeps them for 90 days.

Feedback you send us

If you use "Send feedback" in Settings, we receive the email address and the message you typed, together with your app version, phone model, Android or iOS version and language, so we can reproduce what you describe. It is stored for us by Google (Cloud Firestore, in the European Union) and read only by us. We keep a message until it is answered and for up to a year afterwards, then delete it. Email kyusafeapp@gmail.com to have it deleted sooner.

Purchases

If you buy the Pro upgrade, the purchase is processed by Google Play or the Apple App Store and managed through RevenueCat. We receive your purchase and entitlement status so the app can unlock. We never receive your card or payment details.

How your data is shared

We do not sell your data and we do not share it for advertising. The only third parties that process data for the app are PostHog (analytics, European Union), Google (Google Analytics for Firebase, Firebase Crashlytics, and Cloud Firestore for feedback you send), RevenueCat and the app store you bought through (purchases). Each of them processes the data on our behalf and only for the purpose described above. We do not share anything else, because the app does not collect anything else.

Security

Analytics data, crash reports, feedback and purchase information are encrypted in transit. Your footage and reports never leave your device.

How to delete your data

Reports and saved folders are deleted from within the app or by uninstalling it. Analytics events and crash reports are anonymous and cannot be linked back to you; if you would still like them removed, email kyusafeapp@gmail.com with the approximate dates you used the app and we will delete what we can identify within 30 days. Crash reports expire on their own after 90 days. Purchase records are kept for as long as your purchase is active, and for as long as the app store requires afterwards, so that we can restore it and handle refunds.

Children

The app is a tool for dash cam owners and is not directed at children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will change the "Last updated" date above when we do.
